Sewerage Relining

Re-lining existing sewer pipes

With the advances being made in plastic and polymer technology thin films have been developed that will enable existing pipes to be re-lined. This can have value if the pipe is structurally sound and yet faults with the jointing, for example, are causing the sewer to leak. The introduction of a thin liner against the wall of the sewer maintains its capacity and enables a more cost-effective rehabilitation of the sewer rather than an expensive replacement.

If a sewer is beginning to loose its structural integrity, for example pitch fibre may begin to collapse under an eccentric load on the pipe wall, then the pipes can often be re-rounded to enable a thicker walled liner to be introduced; that has structural strength of its own. When undertaking these works checks are made to ensure that the slight reduction in carrying capacity of the sewer, as a result of the reduction in the overall diameter of the pipe, does not compromise the system. This is rarely the case, the effects of the crushed sewer pipe are usually much more significant.
