Dealing with Grease and Oils
Using traps and interceptors to deal with grease & oils in sewage
When grease and egg shells combine they create a mixture similar to concrete; oil sticks to the pipe at the waterline. Both of these conditions can clog sewers and drains.
You could keep a container handy to collect grease and oils. When the container is full take it to your local recycling centre.
Grease can cause blockages in sewers. The sewer becomes coated with congealed grease and has less capacity to carry the sewage. This leads to backing-up and flooding during rain. The blockages lead to higher maintenance costs for the owner.
We can install a grease trap or an oil interceptor to prevent these headaches. The traps work on very similar principles, oil and grease being separate from and not easily mixing with the sewage are prevented from flowing down the sewer by baffles in a specially constructed chamber. The chamber can be emptied from time to time to maintain its effectiveness at trapping oil or grease.
