Blockages and Surcharging
Dealing with blocked drains & surcharging sewers
When a drain becomes blocked the waste water often overflows or backs up through gullies or manholes. Sometimes sinks and toilets can be affected causing the flow of water from these to become very slow. There may also be a bad smell associated with the problem.
You may want to check with your neighbours whether they are experiencing similar problems.
When a blockage occurs the problem can be resolved but if the problem keeps re-occurring it is better to try to prevent the problem happening again. The causes of these problems are various and may be a combination of more than one issue. The most common problems are;
- Changes in sewer gradient
- Changes in sewer direction
- Changes in sewer diameter
- Insufficient gradient / falls
- Lack of maintenance / deterioration of sewer
- Poor design / detailing
- Poor workmanship
If you are tired of suffering regular failures of your sewer we will survey the system and tell you what is wrong. We will not only tell you but we can fix it for you too.
