Locating leaks from the noise that they make
As water escapes from a leaking pipe or a damaged water service a noise is created at the burst, that is carried along the pipe. Pipefix use this leak noise to identify the position of the leak. Termed "leak noise correlation" the method is able to pinpoint leakage occurring between valves on a water system because the distance between those valves is known.
Listening devices on the valve apparatus is used to translate the time that noise takes to travel from the leak to the receivers in to the distance of the leak from the valve.
Our operators correlating the leak position are also able to undertake the repair work to keep our time on site to a minimum.
As the leaks on a water system are repaired then the sensitive listening equipment can be used to trace quieter leaks that may have been masked by larger and noisier leaks on the pipe work.
