Septic Tank Installation & Repair
Simple biological treatment of sewage effluent
Septic tanks are commonly used to dispose of sewage when mains drainage is unavailable. Septic tank systems provide an excellent means of waste disposal and, if looked after correctly, should give many years of trouble free life.
A septic tank separates liquid sewage from solids, the effluent being discharged to the sub soil via a soakaway or field drainage system.
The most common problems with septic tanks arise from defective or undersized drainage systems. These systems require a porous sub soil to work correctly and heavier, clay soils may preclude the use of a septic tank. The suitability of the sub-soil to receive a soakaway or drainage system can be tested with a simple percolation test to measure the capability of the soils to receive liquid.
